The ignore-case option is a more extended variant of the -i option. I also used the -F flag to search for a fixed string to avoid escaping the ellipsis. For a case-insensitive search, the search pattern THANOS matches Thanos, ThaNos, or ThanoS. grep takes a file with the syntax grep .I need to diff two files ignoring all whitespaces and empty/whitespace lines but for some reasons diff options I found does not do all well, it keeps showing the empty line in file1. \s seems to work for whitespace, and \S seems to work for non-whitespace, but it includes all whitespace characters (spaces AND tabs) and it doesn't work if I put it in brackets, treating the backslash and the \s as separate characters. You can use the -i flag which makes your pattern case insensitive: grep -iF 'success.' file1.
